How to find your Jupiter sign

  1. Enter your birth date. A birth time is optional, but it adds the house Jupiter fell in.

  2. Choose your birth town from the list so your local time converts correctly.

  3. Press Find my Jupiter sign to see the sign, its reading, the months Jupiter spent there and your Jupiter returns.

  4. Share your sign when it is certain, print the result, or add a birth time to open your Jupiter lines on the map.

If you don't know your birth time

Without a birth time, the calculator checks Jupiter's sign across the whole local birth day. If it changes, you get both possible readings and the approximate local change time. The degree, house and personal map links need a birth time; a sign-only share card is available when the sign is certain. Jupiter return dates use noon as a reference and are marked approximate. You can print or save the result as a PDF.

What your Jupiter sign says

Jupiter is the largest planet, and astrologers read it as the principle of growth: luck, faith, generosity, learning and the urge to go further. Traditional astrology calls it the greater benefic, the planet of good fortune. Your Jupiter sign describes the way you grow and what you are generous or optimistic about, and its house shows where opportunities are read as coming to you. Because Jupiter stays about a year in each sign, the sign says as much about your year of birth as about you; the house is what makes it personal.

Jupiter sign Where astrologers read the luck
Aries Going first, leading, starting things
Taurus Money, comfort, building steadily
Gemini Curiosity, talk, writing, connections
Cancer Home, family, caring for others
Leo Confidence, creativity, taking the stage
Virgo Skill, service, careful work
Libra Partners, diplomacy, fairness
Scorpio Shared resources, research, depth
Sagittarius Travel, study, faith
Capricorn Discipline and ambition, luck earned slowly
Aquarius Friends, groups, new ideas
Pisces Compassion, imagination, spirit

In the traditional scheme Jupiter rules Sagittarius and Pisces and is exalted in Cancer, where it is said to work at its best. In Gemini and Virgo, the signs opposite its own, it is in its detriment, and in Capricorn, opposite Cancer, in its fall. Astrologers read those placements not as bad luck but as luck that has to be worked for.

Jupiter is in Leo from June 30, 2026 to July 26, 2027: Jupiter in Leo gives the dates, the retrograde and what astrologers read in the year.

A year in each sign

Jupiter circles the zodiac in just under 12 years, about a year in each sign. Every 13 months or so it appears to move backward for about four months, and around a sign change that loop can carry it back into the sign it has just left, sometimes for as long as six months, before it moves on for good. The section below lists the birth dates for Jupiter in each sign from 1930 to 2040, and the calculator gives the exact dates Jupiter entered and left your sign, with a table of its signs from two years before your birth to two years after.

Your Jupiter returns

About every 11.9 years, Jupiter comes back to the degree it held when you were born: around ages 12, 24, 36, 47, 59, 71 and 83. Astrologers read each Jupiter return as the start of a new cycle of growth, a time when opportunities open and what you begin sets the tone for the next twelve years. When a retrograde loop crosses your Jupiter degree, the return is exact three times over several months, and the calculator lists every pass, past and coming.

Your Jupiter lines on the map

Jupiter has four lines on your astrocartography map, showing where it was rising, setting, overhead and underfoot when you were born. They are the classic lines for luck, growth and opportunity, and the Jupiter MC line in particular is read as a line for career. Read about each one in the Jupiter lines guide, see them on your free astrocartography chart, or start with the lines for career.

Questions

What does my Jupiter sign mean?

Astrologers read Jupiter as growth, luck, faith and generosity: where life opens up for you, and where you tend to be optimistic, wise or inclined to overdo things. The sign describes how you grow, and the house shows the part of life where luck is read as coming most easily.

Why do people born in the same year often share a Jupiter sign?

Jupiter takes just under 12 years to circle the zodiac, so it spends about a year in each sign, and two people born in the same year share it about three times in five. Its retrograde loop, about four months in every 13, can also carry it back into a sign it has just left. The house, which needs a birth time, makes it personal.

What is a Jupiter return?

The moment Jupiter comes back to the degree it held when you were born, around ages 12, 24, 36, 47, 59, 71 and 83. Astrologers read each one as the start of a new cycle of growth. The calculator lists the passes when a retrograde loop crosses the degree. Without a birth time, these dates use an approximate noon reference.

Do I need my birth time?

Usually not. Jupiter moves at most about a quarter of a degree a day and changes sign on only about one day in 220. On a change day, the calculator shows both possible signs and the approximate local change time. A birth time adds the degree and house, and refines return dates.

What does it mean if Jupiter was retrograde when I was born?

It means Jupiter appeared to move backward against the stars, as it does for about four months every 13 months, so roughly three people in ten are born with it retrograde. Astrologers read a retrograde Jupiter as growth that comes from inner conviction rather than outside reward.
