How zodiac compatibility works

Astrologers read two signs by how far apart they sit around the zodiac circle. That distance decides what they have in common: an element (fire, earth, air or water), a mode (cardinal, fixed or mutable), both or neither.

Fire and air are read as feeding each other, and earth and water as nourishing each other, which is why sextiles and oppositions (always fire with air, or earth with water) count as friendly. Squares join signs of the same mode that want to lead in different ways, such as cardinal Aries and cardinal Cancer.

More than Sun signs

Sun-sign compatibility is where most people start, but it is one link out of many. Astrologers look first at a handful of classic connections, and the calculator checks seven of them:

A pair with a demanding Sun-sign match can have easy Moon and Venus links, and the reverse. That is why the result lists every link separately and does not add them up into a score.

Questions

Which zodiac signs are most compatible?

By Sun sign alone, astrologers read signs of the same element (trines: fire with fire, earth with earth) and signs of friendly elements (sextiles: fire with air, earth with water) as the easiest matches, and opposite signs as the most magnetic. Squares and quincunxes are read as the most demanding.

Is Sun sign compatibility enough?

No, and astrologers rarely stop there. The Moon signs show whether your emotional needs fit, Venus and Mars show attraction, and the full synastry chart compares every planet to the degree. Two people with 'incompatible' Sun signs can have very easy Moon and Venus links.

Why is there no compatibility percentage?

Because no honest method produces one. A percentage would add up links of very different weight and present opinion as measurement. The calculator shows each link and how astrologers traditionally read it, and leaves the weighing to you.

Do I need our birth times?

No. Birth dates give the Sun, Venus and Mars signs, and the Moon sign on most days. The Moon changes sign every two to three days, so on a day it changed, a birth time and place settle it.

What about friendship compatibility?

The same links apply. Sun, Moon and Mercury contacts matter most between friends, while Venus and Mars links are read as romantic chemistry.
