A day for a year
Secondary progressions are the most used way of moving a birth chart forward in time. Each day after your birth stands for a year of your life, so the chart for the 30th day after you were born is read as your chart at 30. The planets of that day are your progressed planets. Because they move slowly, a progressed chart changes gradually, and astrologers read it as inner development: how your character matures, while transits describe what the world brings.
The progressed Sun and Moon
The progressed Sun moves about a degree a year, so it changes sign about every 30 years, and over 85 years it moves into two or three new signs. The progressed Moon moves faster, between about 12° and 15° a year, changing sign every two to two and a half years and going round the whole zodiac in about 27 years. It is read as the emotional climate of each stretch of life, and its sign changes are among the most watched moments in a progressed chart.
The progressed lunar cycle
About every 29 and a half years the progressed Moon catches up with the progressed Sun: a progressed new moon, read as the start of a new cycle of growth. The cycle then passes through eight phases, each lasting three to four years, from the new moon through the full moon, its peak, to the balsamic phase before the next new moon. The progressed angles and planets
The progressed Midheaven here moves by solar arc: as far as the progressed Sun has moved since birth, about a degree a year. The progressed Ascendant is the one that goes with that Midheaven at your birth latitude. Mercury, Venus and Mars can turn retrograde or direct in your progressed chart during a lifetime, which astrologers read as a change of direction in that planet's theme. Jupiter, Saturn and the outer planets hardly move.
Progressed aspects
When a progressed planet comes within a degree of an exact aspect to a planet or angle in your birth chart, astrologers read that meeting as a theme of those years: the progressed Sun conjunct your birth Venus, say, as years when love and art come forward. Within a degree either side, such an aspect lasts about two years for the progressed Sun and about two months for the progressed Moon. These are readings from tradition, for reflection rather than prediction.

What is a progressed chart?
A chart of the sky on the day that falls as many days after your birth as the years you have lived: at 30, the day 30 days after you were born. Astrologers read it as your birth chart grown up, a slow picture of how you develop, where transits are the outside events. This method is called secondary progression, or a day for a year.
How do I find my progressed Moon?
