The lunar nodes in astrocartography
The lunar nodes are not bodies but points: the two places where the Moon's tilted orbit crosses the path of the Sun. Eclipses happen near them, which is why astrologers have always treated them as significant. In modern astrology the North Node is read as the direction of growth, what your life is reaching toward, and the South Node as familiar ground and old habits. On the map, North Node lines are read as places where purpose, fated meetings and a sense of calling come forward.

And the South Node?
The South Node is always exactly opposite the North Node in the sky. Because opposite points on the celestial sphere rise and set at the same time on opposite horizons, the South Node's lines are the North Node's lines with the angles swapped. Your South Node ASC line is your North Node DSC line; your South Node MC line is your North Node IC line. Astrologers read the South Node side as familiar, comfortable and sometimes limiting: places where you fall back on old habits.
True node and mean node
The Moon's orbit wobbles, so the true (osculating) node swings a little back and forth around the smoothly moving mean node, by up to about 1.5°. This site draws the true node by default; the birth chart tool offers the mean node too. On the map, the difference shifts the node lines by a small amount, much less than an uncertain birth time does.

How strongly to weigh node lines
The nodes are points, not planets, and some astrologers give their lines less weight than the Sun's or Venus's. Many others find North Node lines striking for the places where life changed direction. Tap the cities from your own history, especially where you met important people or made big decisions, and see whether a node line runs nearby.
