The Moon in astrocartography

In a birth chart the Moon stands for feelings, instinct, comfort, memory and belonging, and for mothering, both given and received. Where the Moon was prominent at your birth, astrologers say those themes become part of daily life. Moon lines are rarely described as places of achievement; they are places of feeling: where you nest, bond, remember and look after or are looked after.

The Moon IC is the one most people look for: it is the classic home line. The Moon DSC is a favourite for relationships that feel like family, and the Moon MC for careers in care, food, hospitality or anything that serves the public.

What makes the Moon's lines unusual

The Moon moves fast, about 13° a day, so even people born a day apart have noticeably different Moon lines. And its declination swings further than any planet's: in some years up to about 28.5° north and south, in others only about 18°. When it is far north or south, its rising and setting curves bend and meet at lower latitudes than other planets' lines do, sometimes around 61°. That is why your Moon ASC and DSC lines may loop sharply over Scandinavia, Alaska or southern Chile while other lines run on toward the poles.

Your Moon sign matters

The line shows where; your Moon sign shows how. A Cancer or Taurus Moon on its IC line is read as deeply at home; a Sagittarius Moon on the same line might love the place and still need to travel from it. Because the Moon moves quickly, an accurate birth time matters as much for its lines as for any other. Moon parans

Where a Moon line crosses another planet's, the pairing is read along that latitude. Moon and Venus parans are described as warmth and affection; Moon and Jupiter as generous, nurturing surroundings; Moon and Saturn as emotional responsibility. Moon lines are usually read as emotionally rich and nurturing. They can also be sensitive: feelings run closer to the surface, which is comforting for some people and draining for others.

Why do Moon lines sometimes curve so sharply?
