Noon at your birth
The Sun MC line is the simplest line on the map to understand: it is the meridian where it was local solar noon at the instant you were born, with the Sun at its highest point. It runs straight from north to south, because noon happens at the same moment all along a line of longitude. In a chart cast for anywhere on it, the Sun would sit exactly on the Midheaven, the top of the chart and the cusp of the 10th house of career, reputation and public life.

The Sun is identity and purpose; the Midheaven is where you stand in the world. Together astrologers read them as the career line: a place to be seen for who you are, to lead, to be recognized.
